Don't stop the fever; let it burn. The pain comes when you satiate the fever by buying one.

Desensitization through prolonged, systematic exposure to one or more Discoveries.

Came here to say exactly that.
Even with the new Discovery, they just gave it new make up on its eyes and some bling. They didn't really address the issues of it being a unnecessarily overweight off-roader due to the way they've sourced a chassy for it even though, the new RR Sport has been given a make over. Discovery might have some buyers who actually needed a needed a new lighter chassy rather people who'll buy the Sport who wouldn't even need a 4x4 at all. They wouldn't even notice.

you know whats funny, I was talking to my uncle, the land cruiser guy and I asked him about annimosities between cruiser and rover people, saying that its all in good fun and there nothing wrong with either and his comment was: "They are a different bread, and a little odd. They all seem obsessed with making their rigs look like the camel trophy cars, where we just get on with it."

lol. Yes. I still want one though!

I wish it would stop. Owning one would probably make it go away, or perhaps just intensify it more.
I spend far too much time looking at classified ads and 4x4 websites articles like this one thinking about how practical it would be for us to have a second car and how much fun it would be to take the kids off-roading.

And in any case you're wondering exactly what type of fever it is, it's for the 2003-2004 Disco II.

Maybe guaranteed headgasket jobs deter you? In my case the answer is DIESEL SWAP! But maybe it deters, you, maybe. But Disco's are awesome you should probably get one.

still actively on the hunt? I just got off the phone with a local cruiser shop to talk about suspension upgrades. Im getting 33 inch tires soon and I was initially worried about rubbing, but I went out last night and stuffed the wheel as far as I could so I had a wheel airborn and I still had tons of room in the wheel well. It looked like this
So a little more like this

I'm aware of the head gasket problem. And you're not helping any!

in all seriousness, I know the fever well, see said cruiser on the left...but the fever hasn't gotten better with owning one, its just turned into upgrade fever.

LOL. Awesome. I am just waiting for my current tires to get a little more worn out to upgrade to 33's.

mine apparently are old and the inner bead is bad. The tires are cupping badly and the rubber is starting to dry out. they or 06 tires. They still have decent tread left, but why wait for one to blow? Side note on that picture, this was actually from another day and when I went back out to find that mound there was a trucker sleeping in his truck right next to it, there were a bunch of other mounts and hills but it was actually really difficult to find one big enough to max the articulation. I kept thinking "yeah, this is pretty much a strait wall...i wonder if i can even get up it...yup and darn it! its not tall enough."

Haha looks awesome! 33's is good that you can fit it stock wheel wells.
I haven't been very actively searching as I am on the hunt for a new place to live, but I imagine my search will resume after that. Another good thing about the places I am looking at is that I'll save about $200 in rent per month. So I'll put $100 to responsible things like my car payment and 401k and save the rest to put into my car fund. Oh and my commute will be cut in half from 20, to 10 minutes, with todays gas prices that actually makes a significant difference.

Mine has lived without much fanfare for the 6 months I've had it.
Which I've taken as a sign that if I buy 6 more Alfas they'll run just as flawlessly.
So yes, yes it is a serious thing.

Is that how many Alfas it takes to keep one on the road?
